Sustainability is particularly important to us as a company with chemical production processes. Commitment to the sustainability of our technologies, plants and operations is one of our fundamental principles. Our commitment goes beyond EU regulations and certificates. With resource-saving and environmentally friendly processes, protective measures for employees and a focus on regional sourcing, we help protect the environment and people. Over the past decades, we have pushed a number of initiatives and modernizations to recycle processed materials. For example, in our production waste, silver and raw polyamides are separated and processed so that silver can be reused in a new production process.

How is the CO₂ footprint created?

The CO₂ footprint of our yarns and fabrics is made up of many different components. The level of CO₂ emissions from the raw material, production processes, logistics and packaging play an important role here.

In order to be able to save CO₂, we are taking a closer look at our production and value chain. Where do our raw materials come from? What transport routes do they use? How can we improve our own production steps? Emissions are generated along the entire value chain from raw material to metallized textile. In order to keep these emissions and the CO₂ burden as low as possible, we have already taken various actions:

Pretreatment wastewater

The silvering process has been greatly modernized and made more efficient in recent years. Particular attention has been paid to wastewater treatment and water consumption. The wastewater is returned to the water cycle in a preclarified state. This process is monitored both internally and externally.

Charging columns & e-cars in the vehicle fleet

As part of the company car regulation, we pay attention to increase the purchase of e-cars. In addition, Shieldex has two charging stations for e-cars, which are available to employees and visitors.

Separation and reprocessing of silver & polyamide in waste production

For several years now, we have been feeding our production rejects into a recycling process so that the recovered metals can subsequently be reused.

Recycled Materials & Packaging

Our yarn cones are made of recycled paper. When shipping our products, we mostly use cardboard boxes made from recycled material.

Short transportation routes

We are proud of our quality "Made in Germanv". We also source the material for our products exclusively from the EU and can therefore save CO₂ on short transport routes.

Recycled yarn

Recently we have started to use for a special selection of our yarns recycled polvamide yarn, which is obtained from plastic waste and processed by us.

We compensate

Due to our production process, it is of particular importance for us to intervene in our value chain when we identify technical solutions that can protect the environment. In doing so, we may reach our limits in terms of CO₂ savings. That is why we compensate for unavoidable emissions in order to offer a climate-neutral product.

As an international leader in the field of metallized textiles, we develop and produce textile and flexible solutions for people and machines. Shieldex uses first-class materials and at the same time focuses on sustainable processing and quality. Our customers trust in us and our products.
We are aware of this responsibility and actively take back unused or leftover materials from our customers. By taking back and recycling our products, we, and our customers, make an important contribution to natural resource conservation and sustainability.

Which products do we take back?

Due to the complex separation process of polyamide and metal, we can only take back Shieldex yarns and fabrics metallized with silver (without other metals such as copper, nickel and tin).

What quantities do we take back?

We are happy if we can contribute something positive to sustainable thinking and take back your unprocessed goods in the recycling process. Due to the complex process we check individually which quantities we can take back from you. Please feel free to send us an e-mail.

Are there any other requirements?

Before we can accept a larger quantity of the recycled goods for the separation process, we require a material sample for prior testing. After successful analysis of the textile, our customers receive the release for shipment.

What are the costs for the take back?

Our customers only pay for the packaging of the textiles and the shipping of the materials back to us.

Does the customer receive a compensation payment?

Due to the complex separation process, we as a company incur high costs that we can only compensate by reselling the recycled goods. For this reason, we are unfortunately unable to pay our customers compensation for the goods.
